Personality
An easy way to describe Mayu is that she’s the opposite of her sister Mio: she’s timid, docile, withdrawn and not as social as her twin sister. Despite being the older twin, Mayu has a weak and fragile body, as well being more sensitive than her twin. Possibly as a way to show her role as the elder sister, Mayu is also shown to be more calmer than her sister in certain situations, specifically concerning spirits due to her strong 6th sense. However compared to Mio, she has trouble socializing with people outside of her family and because of that, she doesn't have many friends. Due to a childhood that crippled her knee, Mayu has been dependent on her sister ever since and usually gets confused for being the younger sister.

As expected with most twins, Mio and Mayu have a very close relationship with each other to the point of showing incestuous tones at times. The two even made a childhood promise to be "together-forever", as a sign of their close relationship. It can be quite obvious that the sisters are each other's best friend (as well as only close friend on Mayu's side). Despite the fact that Mio basically had to take care of Mayu their whole childhood, the twins managed to hold a strong relationship with each other while it may have driven some people crazy at some point. However, it's been deemed unhealthy due to Mio's unconditional love for Mayu and Mayu's own obsession with Mio.

As a young girl, she's had a very strong attachment with her sister and has showed that her biggest fear was losing the bond they had with each other. She takes their childhood promise very seriously and will do anything to keep that promise from ever being broken. The biggest action that she's actually done in preventing their promise from being broken was purposely throwing herself down the ravine that day of the accident when she couldn't catch up to Mio as she taunted her to speed up, making it not a total accident on her half. She was fully willing to die that day, however, so surviving with only a crippled knee was just as a surprise to her as it was to her family. In the end, her knee was only another factor in Mayu's complete control over her sister, using Mio's guilt and faking her pain just to make sure Mio wouldn't ever leave her again.
In Minakami village, as her sanity slowly deteriorated, the promise was basically the only thing on her mind to the point that she was willing to stay in a locked room if it meant that Mio wouldn't leave her.

Mayu's attachment to her sister was shown to be extremely similar like Sae Kurosawa's, the last Twin Shrine Maiden before the Darkness happened. They have been shown extremely similar in both personality and appearance; Sae even tried to fall from the same exact location where Mayu fell in as an attempt to lure her twin, Yae, to come back to her. Unlike Mayu, however, her's didn't come back. Due to the extreme similarity, it gives Sae more than enough reasons to possess her in an attempt to reunite with Yae, who she and everyone else in the village sees Mio as. Since the two were shown to have a load of things in common, Mayu greatly sympathizes with the spirit, especially the fact Sae had to die alone without her sister. However, she greatly fears Sae due to the fact she had been possessing her into doing things she has no memory of, such as abandoning her sister at certain points.

By the end of the Frozen Butterfly ending, Mayu is left as a shell of her former self. She longs to return back to the days of her childhood when they only mattered to each other. Due to Mio's rejection of performing the Crimson Sacrifice Ritual with Mayu, she is left shattered and hurt but continues to love her sister no matter what. Due to Sae's influence, however, she strangles Mio out of rage and continues to cling to her body. After all what happened, the only thing was on her mind was being with her sister, even if it meant suffering in a haunted village her entire life.

Strengths/Weaknesses
+ Able to keep a calm face in most situations
+ Manipulative
+ Knowledgeable of the Spirit World
+ No matter the occasion, she can be empathetic towards people. Even spirits.

-/+ Strong sixth sense that allows her to sense things more easily but easily vulnerable to possession
-/+ Keeps her promises with people at any cost. Emphasis on "at any cost".

- Physical ability is weak, most likely will need to depend on someone for support.
- Ability to socialize on her own is weak as well
- Shows signs of mental instability
- Quite dependent on people, most notably Mio.
- On desperate occasions, she can get a bit implusive with her actions.

Other notes
- Since Mayu is still delusional and shaken up from the events of the Frozen Butterfly ending, she actively believes her Yamask is the transformed soul of Sae, who she believed had the nerve to follow her to Johto and would spend her time trying to talk to her, believing she could understand her (some accusations might be inaccurate).
- Since ghosts appeared to be immensely attracted to her in the FFverse due to her strong 6th sense, there's a possible chance that ghost pokemon might be attracted to her here, depending on where she travels. (If that's alright, of course)
- First interaction between the sisters here in Route might lead to destruction since the two killed each other in different timelines (as well as feelings of replacement).

Samples

First Person Sample:

Where am I? [Her voice was calm but shaky. It matched her confused expression.]

[The young girl could be seen sitting against a tree, staring at her bandaged knee. She gently place a hand on it only to feel….absolutely nothing. No pain and no sores. She only felt the palm of her hand sitting on top of her kneecap.]

My…My knee. Just how is this possible… [She felt a huge array of emotions coming at once. The most intense one she felt was anguish.] …just how?!

[Mayu was attempting to hold back a sob when she noticed a small black spirit floating beside her. It held a worried look on its face, trying to see what was wrong with the poor girl. As a response, Mayu shot the most intense glare she’s ever made in her life towards the ghost pokemon.]

Just what are you doing here? [Mayu just let the tears fall. She didn’t care anymore.] Just go away, I don’t want to see you anymore.

[The Yamask had a genuine hurt look on its face. Mayu took this look the wrong way.]

J-Just go away, Sae! [Her voice was breaking down at this point as more tears came down her eyes.] J-JUST G-GO AWAY!

I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU EVER AGAIN!

Third Person Sample:

Mayu was getting tired of letting herself getting used by that dreadful spirit. Just so fucking tired.

If Sae was able to follow her here into this world then why didn’t Mio? Sure, it would mean carrying her sister around and getting a whole bunch of questions that don’t need to be answered but Mayu didn’t mind because it was Mio. She wouldn’t mind if Mio became into that little black spirit because she knew it would still be Mio.

But no. It had to be that wretch. Even the mask that pokemon was carrying had her insane smile. She hated seeing that smile but it was so lodged in her mind, she can’t simply forget about it. Sometimes it overwhelmed her to the point she’ll start laughing again. Every time she laughed, all she could think of was that ghoul.

Was that thing able to laugh? She hoped not, especially if it was going to follow her around.

After her little incident that consisted of basically screaming at the poor Yamask, Mayu finally calmed down and was back to her usual self. She had been trying to get used to walking around with a limp after eight years but it still felt kind of awkward. She wasn’t so physically fit due to resting her knee all the time but maybe this would be a chance to improve her physical ability.

In the background, the Yamask could be seen keeping her distance away from her trainer, still hurt from Mayu’s words earlier. She was horribly confused at the fact Mayu would just suddenly scream at her after not even five minutes of their first meeting. The young girl noticed this and while she was still upset over the fact that the spirit had the urge to follow her into this world, she did feel a little guilty.

“Sae.” The Yamask’s eyes lit up. She seemed to be already accepting of her new name, giving Mayu more reasons to believe her accusations were true. It waited as Mayu was trying to come up with something to say to the ghost. She wasn’t really the best at starting conversations with anyone other than Mio.

“How does it feel... to be alive again?”
